Analysis of Refractory Brick Damage Factors

March 13, 2026

Refractory bricks are key heat-resistant linings in high-temperature industries. Their condition directly affects equipment stability, production continuity, and operating costs. Over time, high temperatures, corrosive materials, and mechanical stress can cause cracking, spalling, erosion, and wear, shortening furnace service life.

Based on long-term practical experience, our technical team has summarized four main causes of refractory brick damage:

- Thermal shock & thermal stress damage: Frequent startup/shutdown and rapid temperature changes cause bricks to crack and spall.

- Chemical corrosion: Molten slag, acidic or alkaline media degrade the material and reduce strength.

- Mechanical wear & physical damage: Material scouring, impact, and extrusion wear down the brick surface and loosen the structure.

- Improper construction: Mismatched brick types, substandard construction, overly fast heating, and lack of maintenance accelerate early damage.
