Performance Introduction of Tundish Coating

October 23, 2026

The tundish is a critical vessel for controlling molten steel cleanliness in the continuous casting process. The tundish coating comes into direct contact with high-temperature molten steel and slag. As an important working-layer refractory, it protects the permanent lining and purifies molten steel.

Tundish coatings are mainly made of magnesia and magnesia-calcia raw materials. With proper grain grading and bonding systems, they can be trowelled or sprayed directly onto the surface of the tundish permanent lining to form a uniform, dense refractory protective layer. This material features excellent slag corrosion resistance to resist slag penetration. It also has good thermal shock resistance, so it's not prone to large-area cracking or spalling when the molten steel temperature rises and drops rapidly.

High-quality tundish coating also boasts good peelability. After casting, the residual lining can fall off in whole pieces, cutting down cleaning work and maintenance time. Besides, the material has low impurity content, preventing harmful elements from entering molten steel and meeting the requirements for clean steel production.

Adopting high-performance tundish coating protects the tundish permanent lining, stabilizes continuous casting production, and helps improve slab quality, supporting metallurgical plants to cut costs and boost efficiency.

Our tundish coating is manufactured with strict control over raw material purity. It offers good flowability for easy on-site spraying and forms highly integral coatings. We can adjust formulations according to customers' steel grades and continuous casting duration. Suitable for working conditions such as plain carbon steel and low-alloy steel, it extends tundish service life and reduces overall refractory consumption.
